This journey began with a shocking discovery on the 9th of April 2018 when a severe headache led to an ER visit and the discovery of a mass in Dianna’s brain. Fortunately, the following week an incredible neurosurgeon at UTSW completely resected that tumor and Dianna began the next part of her journey. Pathology revealed the tumor was an oligodenroglioma, (which is good news for a cancerous tumor).
And so began the rousing chorus of "SAGER STRONG" as her cancer battle began and her journey of healing was a remarkable one indeed! Dianna is so well loved that at every turn there were well
wishers and people praying for her; it was overwhelming! And our community rallied around her.
Before her surgery, a large group of teachers and students greeted Dianna outside of Kylie’s school with cheers and posters. Just a week after surgery, Colleyville Heritage declared it “Sager Night” at the CHHS/GHS baseball game and fans from both Colleyville and Grapevine donated gift cards, bought t-shirts and gave their well wishes to the much-loved Coach Sager. The outpouring of support was so inspirational, numerous local media sources documented and shared these events, inspiring others fighting the battle as well.
All along this journey, the community has supported Dianna in incredible ways, whether meals or driving her to appointments, they have stepped up to help, knowing all Dianna gave over the previous 30 years. Praise the Lord, Dianna healed quickly and went right back to teaching and coaching. Miraculously she has had no seizures and requires no medication.
After 3 years, it was decided to go through a course of chemotherapy and radiation to treat the remaining cancer cells. Dianna came though with flying colors and kept her busy work schedulethe whole time. Her treatments were completed in May of 2022 and she continues with regular brain scans and visits with her oncologist, but her prognosis is good and the future is bright!
This journey has truly demonstrated Dianna’s incredible resilience, and now that she has retired from teaching/coaching, she is ready to give back to her much-loved community that has done so much to support her. She truly is SAGER STRONG for our kids, our schools and our community.
As of November 2022, her scans continue to look good! She will continue scans and visits every three months for now!
